The Massachusetts Medical Society and its 25,000 physician members are angered and heartbroken by the senseless, evil and reportedly racially motivated attacks and killings of members of the Asian-American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community in Atlanta
this week. We mourn the victims and grieve for their families and all who suffer from the agony of loss.
Since the onset of the pandemic, we have witnessed society at its best – supportive, connected, and working in unison to contribute to the mitigation of a disease that threatens us all. Devastatingly, at the same time some small-minded and misguided individuals
empowered by influential voices have leveraged false and hurtful narratives to advance xenophobic and racist agendas, cruelly targeting our AAPI communities.
We stand with our AAPI friends and colleagues in health care and in our communities and condemn these actions and the root cause of all acts of hate – racism in all its forms.
Acts of brutality, hate, and bigotry have no place in our world. The Medical Society will continue to combat oppressive behavior in health care and beyond and our commitment to being an antiracist organization remains unwavering.
